the “river of blood” is a common misdirection
technique used in advertisements. in a television
commercial, for instance, while describing the
possible negative side-effects of a given brand
of cereal it is common for a river of blood to
be shown flowing rapidly on screen. i read
once that each commercial’s “river of blood”
is actually a unique part of an entire film of
the same name. there was a super bowl ad
this year where a “river of blood” clip was
shown for an entire 40 second span. this
clip was not part of a commercial and there
was no sound. slowed down, the last few
frames show an object entering from the
left side of the screen moving against the
current. i never kept up with sports but
i have always been interested in marketing.
i don’t know what happens when you splice
all 5 minutes of footage together.
